Shoman – Boshu- Khori no tsuitachi -

Under trees, you will find filtered sunlight, beautiful as jewels shining.
By the time you look for shades without paying attention, you find greens’ beauty once again.
Sun light becomes strong day by day and temperature goes up.
All lives are growing quickly.
You fell vitality both in the sky and on the ground.
That is why we all this time “Shoman”, grain full.

Greens become deeper on grasses and trees and we see summer days are in bloom shortly.

People in old days should have prepared to survive strong summer sun.
In old times, the emperor gave away to his subjects ice, the offerings to him in June.
This is to beat summer heat and wish good health.
Not only nobles, but also common people also had cakes which reflects ice on.

Kashiwaya dishes this month start with Himuro-Tofu, reflecting on ice which the emperor gave away in old days.
Sakizuke is decorated with Sakaki, Japanese cleyera.
People in old days put Sakaki on ice when they carry to avoid all uncleanness.
Soon hot summer is coming. We prepare our dishes to our guest to beat heat and spend summer healthy.
