Greetings

Greeting “ Footstep on Young Green ” From Spring Equinox to Pure Brightness*

Haru-no-no ni   Wakana tsumamu to   Koshimono wo
Chiri kafu hana ni   Michi wa madoinu
Written by Ki no Tsurayuki

Meaning:
I came to the spring field to pick young greens.  However, the blooming cherry blossoms hid the way and I seemed to lose my way.

The cherry blossom petal is pink at the start of blooming, and it has been gradually paled out.  After full bloom, the petal changes into white, and the cherry blossoms flutter like snow.  In the poem, “wakana tsumamuto” express early spring; “Chiri kafu hana ni” express late spring.  I got the impression that Tsurayuki had signed, “Spring was over before I knew.”

This is the third time to see the cherry blossoms after the COVID-19 disaster.  Time has passed with repeated movement restrictions.  Our daily lives continue while we are forced to divide into what we can and cannot do.  When I read this poem again, there are some things that look different.  Now is the time we should make the most of each and every day.

Spring has passed before we get enough time to think about the transient cherry blossom.  I would like to cherish it until the very last petal this year, too.

At Kashiwaya, we prepare the cuisine to make our guests enjoy the end of spring thoroughly.  Please enjoy the pleasant spring day at our restaurant.  Around the spring equinox, a sudden crack of thunder sometimes breaks the sky.  Please note that the menu may change depending on the arrival status.  Thank you for your kind understanding.

*Spring Equinox/ Pure Brightness: The traditional East Asian calendars divide a year into 24 solar terms.  “Spring Equinox” is the 4th solar term and starts from March 21st.  “Pure Brightness” is the 5th solar term and starts from April 5th.
