師走の声も聞こえてくると、日暮れが思わぬ早いことに驚くことがあります。日の出や日暮れの時間は、日々少しずつ変化しているものですが、日常の忙しさに紛れてしまい、季の変化に気を留めることなく過ごしていたことに気づかされます。そんなひととき他の季節は、ふと我に帰りホッと気を休めるものですが、日常の忙しさに加え、寒さもつのり、日も短くなってくると、何か忙しなく感じるものです。

昨日は昨日と、今日は今日といって暮らし、また明日になる。
飛鳥川の流れのように、早い月日の流れであることだ。

季節の終わりを節季といいますが、暮れの節季は一年の折り目として特に「大節季」といいます。

何事も早め早めにと努めて日々過ごそうと自分に言い聞かせますが、なかなか思うに任せないものです。今年こそ、冬至の柚子湯にはゆったり浸かりたいものです。

鰤、蟹、白子など、冬の味覚が出揃ってきました。また、より寒さが増してきますと蕪や大根、冬の野菜はこの時期だけの美味しさを見せてくれます。柏屋の冬のお料理で、年の残りのひとときをごゆるりとお過ごしください。

As it is close to the end of the year, I am sometimes surprised by how short the day is.  Sunrise and sunset times are always slightly changed but we spend our time without noticing these changes.  When it is getting colder and dark earlier, you might feel busier than usual.

 Meaning: Yesterday is yesterday, today is today, and tomorrow will be tomorrow again. Time flies like Asukagawa river.

The end of the season is called “Sekki” in Japanese, and we specially call the end of year “0h-sekki.”  I always try to finish ahead of schedule but things do not always work out as I expected.  This year, I would like to take a nice relaxing bath with yuzu citrus.

*Light Snow/ Winter Solstice: The traditional East Asian calendars divide a year into 24 solar terms. “ Light Snow” is the 20th solar term and starts from 11/20. “Winter Solstice” is the 22th solar term and starts from 12/22.
