年もあらたまり令和六年となりました。今年もよろしくお願い申し上げます。

はじめに、年頭の日に令和六年能登半島地震が発生しました。お亡くなりになられた方々のご冥福をお祈りいたします。また被災された皆様に心よりお見舞いを申し上げます。

今年の干支は甲辰(きのえたつ)になります。

甲は、十干の一番初めであり、きのえは、木の兄つまり陽の木にことで、成長、発展、春の象徴とされます。

甲辰は「春の日差しが、あまねく成長を助く年」になるといいます。年頭の災いを最後にして、残りの一年は平穏で健やかな年になるように願うばかりです。

あたらしき年のはじめの初春の　けふふる雪のいやしけよごと

新しい年の初め　初春の今日降る雪のように
良いことが重なりますように

古来、新年に降る雪は吉兆のしるしとされていたようです。歌のように良い事が積もり重なりますように願うばかりです。

小寒を過ぎると日に日に昼も長くなることを実感いたします。寒さの底はまだ少し先にありますが、日差しの明るさは増し晴れやかな春を予感させてくれます。

First of all, there was a 2024 Noto peninsula earthquake at the beginning of the year.  I am sorry for the loss.  My heart goes out to all people in the disaster area.

This is the Year of the Dragon “Kinoe Tatsu” in Chinese astrology.  “Kinoe” is the first of ten heavenly stems and has a meaning of growth, development, and symbol of spring.  In the year of Kinoe Tatsu, it is said that spring sunlight will help everything to grow.  I wish you peaceful and healthy days for the rest of the year.

Meaning:
At the beginning of the year
Like snow which falls today
Hope great things happen one right after another

In ancient times, the snow at the beginning of the year was a sign of good luck.  Hope wonderful things happen in succession this year.

After Lesser Cold*, the days are getting longer and longer.  It still remains cold weather but we can find signs of spring.

*Lesser Cold: The traditional East Asian calendars divide a year into 24 solar terms. “Lesser Cold” is the 23rd solar term and starts on January 6th.
